Lake Atitlán, also known as Lago de Atitlán is a resort lake in Guatemala, 40 miles (64 km) west of Guatemala City. The lake is overlooked by four volcanoes and it is thought to be an ancient valley dammed by volcanic ash. Atitlán Lake is 1,050 feet (320 meters) deep and its area is 53 square miles (137 sq km). Good food fish can be caught in its waters. The chief town on the lake is Atitlán.
