Apurímac River arises as an outlet of Lake Villafro in the province of Arequipa, in Peru, not far from the village of Cailloma.
The Apurímac is part of the headwaters of the Amazon, and it is the headwater that rises closest to the Pacific Ocean. The Apurimac flows in a northerly direction through a mountainous country to join the Mantaro River to form the Ene River, one of the chief tributaries of the Amazon. The Apurímac is about 430 miles in length, but exact measurements are hard to make.
